Bangladesh Railway is the Government owned transport agency of Bangladesh. It was under Bangladesh Governed Railway Board from end of Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 until 1982. Then it came to Railway Division of the Ministry of Communication. It operates and maintains all railways in the country. The total length of the route is about 2,855 km.

Train ticket services are available at all stations as well as online. Ten percent of total tickets are kept for online ticket purchasing. Most of the stations are fully computerized and passengers also can buy printed tickets. . Full refunds are available until two days before departure.
To buy ticket online you need to register yourself with a cell phone number first. Then you can book online and ticket details will be emailed to you instantly after payment though Visa, Master, DBBL Nexus/Visa/Master/Mobile Banking and City Bank Amex Cards. Print it out and bring it along with your valid Identity card to the station at least 15 minutes prior to your journey.
