The Sundarban is one of the largest mangrove forest in the World. It is situated South West part of Bangladesh, in the district of greater Khulna. It is about 3,900 sq mi of which about 2,300 sq mi are located in Bangladesh and about 1,500 sq mi in India. It lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers on the Bay of Bengal. Three rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna lies on the delta on on the Bay of Bengal which is and the West Bengal region of India. There are species including the Bengal tiger, dolphins, and river terrapin which is rear in the World.



The Bangladeshi and Indian parts of the Sundarbans are the adjacent parts of the uninterrupted landscape, It has been listed separately in the UNESCO World Heritage List: as The Sundarbans and Sundarbans National Park.

Sundarban is the natural habitat of the world’s famous Royal Bengal Tiger, but you can also spot Saltwater Crocodiles, various primates, leopards, King Cobras and Indian Cobras. It is home to many different species of birds, mammals, insects, reptiles and fishes. Over 120 species of fish and over 260 species of birds have been recorded in the Sundarbans. The Gangetic River Dolphin (Platanista gangeticus) is common in the rivers. No less than 50 species of reptiles and eight species of amphibians are known to occur. The Sundarbans now support the only population of the Estuarine, or Salt-Water Crocodile (Crocodylus parasus) in Bangladesh, and that population is estimated at less than two hundred individuals. wikitravel

How to go

To visit Sundarban, first you have to go to Khulna which is 333 km away from the capital Dhaka. You can travel by many AC, Non AC, Economy and Executive bus services available from Dhaka to Khulna. There are renowned bus company such as Hanif Paribahan, Shohagh Paribahan, Green Line, Eagle Paribahan, Soudia Paribahan etc.

Bangladesh Railway also has two intercity express trains Sundarban Express and Chittra Express running between Dhaka and Khulna.

You will not get direct flight to Khulna, there is no airport Khulna. But you can reach Jessore by domestic flight from Bangladesh Biman Airlines. From Jessore to Khulna you need to travel only 71 km. You will get many local bus services to reach Khulna City from Jessore domestic airport.

Where to eat

It’s best to taste the delicious dishes made of fresh catches from the water. Some of the hotels or lodges also have their own kitchen garden to give the guests a sample of fresh produce. Also there are good numbers of restaurants such as Mejban bari, Citylight Cafe & Restaurant, Shawarma House, Deshi Kitchen and Firefly Restaurant serving traditional cuisine.
